The HP Pavilion x360 (14-Inch) has strong performance and a comfortable keyboard, but its battery life is a bit short. The latest HP Pavilion x360 comes close to the standard of a high-end laptop, offering a processor powerful, comfortable keyboard and a good pair of Bang & Olufsen speakers for $ 749 (starting at $ 499). This device would be a flagship laptop if it didn’t have short battery life and a dim display. Even so, the Pavilion x360 is a decent machine in terms of price.

The Pavilion x360 I tested costs $ 749 (on sale for $ 524 at Best Buy at the time of writing) and is powered by an Intel Core i5-8265U processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, and a console. 1920 x 1080. The base model runs for $ 499 and drops to a Core i3-8145U processor and a 1366 x 768 display. Meanwhile, the $ 899 model has a built-in Core i5-8265U CPU and 12 RAM. The hood of the Pavilion x360 is housed in a warm gold paint and is stamped in the middle with a reflective HP logo. The edges of the hood and deck curves point outward and then in while they meet, creating an hourglass design that surrounds the Pavilion x360. There is also a Pavilion logo on the laptop’s hinge.

Opening the Pavilion x360 shows a slightly more silver tone on the deck, an engraved section for the keyboard in the center, and a vent for the Bang & Olufsen speaker just above it. There’s also a fingerprint reader on the right side of the touchpad. Thankfully, the bezels on the screen are relatively thin.

Fold the Pavilion x360 into the tent and then tablet mode reveals the lower and upper sections incorrectly lined up. But the bottom is at least magnetic, so it’s in a unique position.

Weighing 3.6 pounds and 12.7 x 8.8 x 0.8 inches, the HP Pavilion x360 is slightly better than the competition. The Acer Spin 3 measures 3.6 pounds and 13.2 x 9.1 x 0.8 inches, while the Huawei MateBook D weighs 3.4 pounds and 12.7 x 8.7 x 0.6 inches. Replacing the 13-inch, Asus ZenBook 13 UX333FA, tests at 2.7 pounds and 11.9 x 7.4 x 0.7 inches.

There is a fair amount of ports on the Pavilion x360, including a USB 3.0 port, headphone jack, power button and security lock slot, all on the left side.

Meanwhile, the right edge has a power jack, HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, a USB Type-C port and an SD card slot.

The HP pavilion x360 14 cd0111tu 14-inch, 1920 x 1080 display is a bit bleak. And while the display is relatively bright, its glossy texture makes it a bit uncomfortable to look at.

Karen Gillian’s red head looks drained in the Jumanji: Next Level trailer on Pavilion x360’s dashboard. When Chung Han Dong was running into what looked like a dining area, I could see most of the surrounding furniture, but only at a certain angle, as there was a noticeable glare. Even so, the screen was sharp enough for me to spot the stitching on Jack Black’s hat.

According to our colorimeter, the Pavilion x360 panel covered 61% of the sRGB color gamut, which is 76% dimmer than the mainstream laptop average of 76%, not to mention the Spin 3 (69%), MateBook D ( 73%) and ZenBook 13 (115%).

Keyboard and touchpad
Typing on the keyboard of the Pavilion x360 is extremely satisfying. The keys aren’t as snappy, but they feel smooth and need some force and movement before they bottom out.

I passed 74 words per minute on the 10FastFingers.com typing test, which is faster than my current 70 wpm average. The keys travel at 1.4 mm, located on top of our favorite 1.5 to 2.0 mm range, and they need a solid 70 grams of force to actuate.

The Pavilion x360’s touchscreen panel is very responsive when I paint a rough picture of a sunset (aka five blue lines on top, five green lines at the bottom, and an orange circle in the middle – Perfection).

The semi-matte 4.3 x 2.1-inch touchpad is not as comfortable as what’s installed on the EliteBook line, but it does a good job. The keyboard has Windows Precision drivers, so it handles Windows 10 gestures, such as three-finger tabs and two-finger scrolling, nicely.

The Pavilion x360’s standout Bang & Olufsen speakers are surprisingly good for a $ 800 laptop. While the speakers can be a bit louder, they can carry their ‘I See You’. Missio walks around a small office. The opening vocals, combined with the musical notes on the keyboard, caught me in the moment. And when the drum goes off, I can feel the weight of the bass. The overall sound may be brighter, but I’ve heard worse speakers on machines worth more than $ 2,000.
